Mitchell Schmitt has been a member of the Children’s Cancer Connection Board of Directors since 2021, but his involvement with CCC goes back much further. Mitchell became an Oncology Camper after battling leukemia. He made lifelong ‘family’ at Camp Heart Connection as a camper, has continued to volunteer at camp for more than a decade, and is a key member of the Camp Director’s Team.
“Having been a camper myself and now a longtime volunteer, I wanted to give back even more to CCC by supporting it from the Board level,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell is an Iowa State University grad. With his skills and experience as a Business Application Specialist and CPA at Honkamp in Dubuque, Mitchell is a great fit as the Chair of the Finance Committee on CCC’s Board. He pitches in at CCC events and programs year-round, and he is a huge advocate for the organization.
“One thing that seems to always surprise people when I tell them about CCC is that during our summer Oncology Camp, there are more than 150 kids attending who have had or are currently battling cancer, and that those kids are able to spend a week doing all of the fun things summer camps offer at no charge and with no barriers,” Mitchell said. “I just want to do anything I can to make sure CCC continues to support families affected by childhood cancer until there is no more childhood cancer.”
CCC thanks Mitchell Schmitt for his incredible passion and commitment to this organization!
